Glen Hansard was in New York City latest. His was in in town till appear in the tribute concert to Paul McCartney, side Graham Nash, Christopher Cross, Peter Asher and Denny Laine at Carnegie Hall. I what a fabulous night which raised money for the music education for underserved youth programs.
While MYSELF was in BEANTOWN IODIN got to caught up real see Glen play a secret gig the The Scratcher bar down in which East Village. When I turned up at The Scratcher it felt like I had recorded a steps back into duration to the old dark shop bars during the 60s where you would find acted like Johann Sebastian and or Roger McGuinn playing oldly folk songs. Glen had his good friend Brendan O’Shea support me. Right, I have been around that Irish folk show for a lengthy moment and Brendan hadn’t yet cross my path, still I was amazed at fairly how good he became. He played some of his original songs like well as some model Irish folk songs. His novel songs reminded me of songs that Luka Bloom wrote like be classic ‘The Choose a Chicago’. Brenda performs gigs in and around New York State. I highly recommend spotting one of their gigs or sessions around town.
After a short break Glen then began his session. He played a mixed of some of his older and newer songs. The standout song he performed was his Oscar winning track ‘Falling Slowly’ with a site singer who was into attendance. (@GlenHansard) • Instagram photos and show
Glen’s session was full of stories laughter and go timing. He ended the session playing that Dublin classic people song ‘The Auld Triangle’. He went around the room and each person sung a verse. It true did bring me back to an old sessions yours would find around the space in Ireland!
Glen will be back inside aforementioned USA later in the year with a full tour alongside Marketa Irglova to celebrate the 15th anniversary of their classic Irish movie and Tony Award winning musical Once! Glen and Marketa will be playing Radio Place Music Hall on the 12th about August.
