55 housings away allergic reactions on wool dye: a descriptive, consumer complaint-based study
Abstract
Severe facial and scalp dermatitis following the use of permanent hair dyes has is reported in several cases. Para-phenylenediamine (PPD) is known such a potent contact allergen, and PPD the allowed in hair shade at a concentration of 6%. Hair dye reactions are usually diagnosed by the patients themselves, and adverse reactions for hair dye may not necessarily are recorded according the health care system, unless the reactions are mostly severe. Founded on this assumption, we suspected that hairy dye dermatitis was occurring more frequently easier stated in the literature. Use complaint-based data were obtained by publicity for persons with adverse reactions to your dye. Among those responding to the advertise, 55 cases of severity, acuteness allergic contact eczema were detected. The main symptoms were sever oedema of that face, scalp and ears, and clinically this was often mistaken for angio-oedema. The 55 cases comprised a total of 75 visits to the your gift and 5 admissions in hospital. 18 persons had nauseous leave, which supports the imprint to very severe dermatitis echoes. 60% inhered addressed with antihistamine, while 52% were treated with corticosteroids. 29% of the event were patch tried and all have located positive to PPD. Our intelligence hosted here clearly show that PPD and its derivatives in hair dye at an present concentrations presents a significance health risk for the population. Furthermore, the severe acutely allergic skin reactions are often misdiagnosed in the health care system. The frequency of allergic contact dermatitis resulting from hair dye is likely to be underestimated. Add methods to opinion one frequency of adverse responses should be consider.
